Conference with Dr Ewan Birney - 25h years of the first human genome sequence

On 8th April 2026, as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the Human Genome Programme, EASIGEN-DS together with CNAG and CosmoCaixa organisedtogether a special conference featuring Dr. Ewan Birney, one of the leading figures behind the first publication of the human genome

The conference brought together members of the scientific community to reflect on one of the most transformative achievements in modern science: the decoding of the human genome; the “book of life.”

The session was opened by CNAG's director Ivo Gut and after that introduction Dr. Ewan Birney took the audience on a journey through the human genome, from the earliest discoveries to the most recent advances. The event concluded with a round table moderated by Mireia Vaca-Dempere, Strategy Officer, fostering dialogue on the impacts of genomics in science and society and a Q&A session from the public.
