European Sequencing and Genotyping Infrastructure (ESGI)

Objective
The EU-funded ESGI project aimed to integrate world-class high-throughput sequencing and genotyping facilities to provide cutting-edge technologies and data analysis methodologies to the scientific community.
Achievements
ESGI successfully defragmented European genomic research capabilities, providing state-of-the-art facilities for large-scale DNA analyses. The project enabled 29 transnational projects, leading to numerous high-impact studies.
Impact
ESGI optimized European research programs, fostered transnational collaborations, and strengthened research capacities in genetics and genomics. The project also provided a support framework for training scientists in genomic research and collaborated with ELIXIR to handle the resulting data explosion.
Timeline
The ESGI project was executed between 2011 and 2015.
