Visit of the ESFRI Chair to CNAG, Coordinator of EASIGEN-DS

On 23rd of July, José Luis Martínez, chair of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), visited the Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG) at the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB), in Barcelona, Spain. 

The meeting started with a presentation of the EASIGEN-DS project, highlighting its objectives and ongoing activities. Discussions then explored the role of advanced genomics and multi-omics technologies in the European research and innovation ecosystem. Participants also exchanged views on the evolving relationship between Research Infrastructures and Technology Infrastructures and how both can contribute to meeting the needs of diverse user communities, including academia and industry.  The discussion reflected one of the core principles of EASIGEN-DS: designing the future infrastructure around users' needs. Through different stakeholder engagement activities, the consortium is gathering input to help shape it future service portfolio.
The programme concluded with a tour to CNAG’s sequencing facilities, and data cluster, showcasing the centre’s state-of-the-art capabilities supporting large-scale genomics research and service provision.

Overall, this visit served as an opportunity for EASIGEN-DS to be presented to key stakeholders, strengthen relationships with ESFRI and gain a deeper understanding of the current European needs and priorities.
